Chris and Jake should have known better. There's a serious exposure to a compromised download when people decide to "help" Microsoft, and it is a silly practice. I would never obtain Microsoft software that way, and I know both Chris and Jake and consider them trustworthy. (Downloading won't get you a registration key either.) Even deep linking to the download on the Microsoft site is something I discourage when I see it.

Going to the official download page is better, so the site can be verified and other safeguards put in place.

Finally, there is no shortage of DVDs, at least not in the US. I received mine (Vista and Office 2007) as part of an MSDN subscription the week before the consumer launch. That's a lot easier than downloading and burning your own. And I can count on it being authentic and one that the keys issued to me will work with.
