Liverpool FC, victors of the Champions' League, just announced that Middlesbrough's Boudewijn "Bolo" Zenden will transfer immediately on a free to Anfield. Zenden, pictured here in blue playing as a regular for Holland, will take up the midfield role just vacated by Vladimir Smicer at Liverpool. (Smicer -- a Czech Republic player, age 32, who is already arranging his locker at Bordeaux -- scored the second of Liverpool's 3 in a 6-minute second-half come-back and converted a decisive penalty in the unusual Champions' League Final against the notoriously unflappable AC Milan.)
This Zenden is a player. He will complement Garrard very well, particularly with his courage and productive involvement. (There is little chance Garrard will leave The KOP, his emotional connection there so deep.)
Bolo's father and manager, Pierre Zenden, confirmed the earlier rumor: "He likes Middlesbrough very much, the fans voted him player of the year and Steve McClaren is a nice trainer, but he wants to play as high as possible. Money is not an issue for Boudewijn."
